How much boot space is left with the third row up?

It varies enormously. Compact 7-seaters may leave room for little more than a few shopping bags, while large SUVs and MPVs retain space for a couple of suitcases. If you regularly travel with all seats occupied and luggage, check the boot with the third row in use rather than relying on the headline litre figure with seats folded.
Are sliding doors worth having?

Is a 7-seater more expensive to run?

Slightly, in most cases. The extra length and weight push up fuel consumption a little, larger tyres cost more to replace and insurance may be marginally higher because of the vehicle's value. Servicing is usually similar to the five-seat version of the same model. The bigger cost is usually the purchase price step-up to the seven-seat variant.
